Navigating the Process of Getting Ungated on Amazon
Gaining ungated status is a key step in your journey as an Amazon seller. It's essential to understand this process thoroughly, so please read this section with care.
Understanding 'Gated' and 'Ungated'
Being 'ungated' means you can sell a product on Amazon without needing to upload an invoice.
Being 'gated', however, requires you to provide an invoice for 10 units of a product purchased from a retailer to sell any product under that brand. For example, an invoice for 10 units of a specific Lego set allows you to sell any Lego product.
To check if you're gated or ungated for a product, start by locating the product's ASIN, typically found in the middle of the product page.
Copy this ASIN and use it in the 'Add a Product' section on Amazon.
You'll either see 'Apply to Sell' (indicating potential gated status for that product) or 'Sell This Product' (indicating you're ungated for that product).
Steps to Becoming Ungated:
Purchase ten units of the same branded product from a retailer.
Obtain an invoice or packing slip from the retailer, either by downloading it from their website or requesting it via email.
Submit this documentation to Amazon. If initially declined, you may need to reapply multiple times (sometimes 5-6 times) for certain items. But once you're ungated for a product, you won't have to repeat this process.
You must have an Amazon business account to proceed with this process.
Example Process for a Specific Brand:
Find a product from the brand you wish to be ungated for on one of the approved sites, these sites can be located later on in this guide titled "Ungating Tips" .
Purchase ten units of the same product.
Secure the invoice or packing slip as proof of purchase.
By following these steps and meeting Amazon's requirements, you can effectively become ungated for various products, expanding your selling capabilities on the platform.
