Terminology
On my Amazon journey towards success, I discovered that having more information reduced my confusion. To help you navigate through the chaos and focus on selling and making money, here are some basic terms I've compiled with my team:
Seller Central: This is the app or desktop version of Amazon that sellers use as a comprehensive interface. It allows you to list products, ship them, manage inventory, adjust pricing, handle returns, analyze reports, access training materials, and much more.
Inventory: This term refers to the items you list for sale on Amazon.
UPC (Universal Product Code): It's the barcode found on the back of items for sale. It serves as a unique identifier for products.
SKU (Stock Keeping Unit): This is an internal number used by businesses to track products and inventory.
MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity): The minimum quantity of a product that must be ordered.
ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number): This is a unique number assigned to each item listed on Amazon. It helps identify products in the Amazon database.
FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon): When you opt for FBA, your items are shipped to Amazon, and they handle storage, packing, shipping, and returns.
FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant): With FBM, you, as the merchant, are responsible for inventory, sales, and shipping.
Featured Offer (BUY BOX): This refers to the box consumers see when they click on "add to cart." The item is sourced from the top seller in the BUY BOX, typically located at the top right of the website or the first listing on the mobile app.
Managing Orders: Orders go through three stages - Pending, Unshipped, and Shipped. An item remains in Pending until payment is fully processed. Only after payment is processed does it move to the Unshipped category, where it must be prepared for shipment within one day. Once shipped, the item appears in the Shipped category. Shipped items can have labels or shipping slips reprinted if needed.
Expedited Shipping: This refers to orders where consumers pay extra for faster delivery. These orders must be delivered to the consumer by the promised date.
Customer Reviews: These are feedback left by consumers regarding the service or quality of a product, both positive and negative.
Returns: These are requests made by consumers directly to Amazon or to you as the seller.
